Mid-Atlantic $500,000 makes major changes
Saturday, February 1, 2014

Press Release from the Mid-Atlantic $500,000:

It has always been our goal to offer competitive anglers an exclusive event that is second to none in the way of fun, camaraderie and “big dollar” prizes. We are always looking to improve the event and we thought the best way of making the MidAtlantic better than ever for 2014 was to simply ask. So, we talked to numerous participants, past and present, and listened to their input and ideas. The overwhelming things we heard were; more ways to win and the opportunity to compete for even bigger prize money.

Therefore, we are pleased to announce some changes regarding the entry and prize structure of the event for 2014 that we believe will preserve the character of the tournament while making it accessible to more competitors, give participants more ways to win and make the payouts more lucrative.
Here are the highlights…

• The entry fee has been reduced to $2,500 from $6,000. This is the requisite price for admission into the event and covers the costs for a crew of six for all functions, dinners, drinks, entertainment, etc. for the week. This essentially splits the hospitality and other tournament costs out from the prize money which will now be derived strictly from calcutta entries. This will give participants more options in how they wish to compete and not limit prize money by the amount of boats competing.

• There are now more choices available to enter for less cost. If you choose, you can participate and win cash prizes for as little as $4500.

• On the opposite end, there are now more choices to compete for bigger prize money. Naturally, the more you’re in, the more you win!

• Two of the new Calcuttas are Tuna oriented; The Tuna, Dolphin and Wahoo Calcutta and the Tuna Pro Jackpot. $5,500 of new Tuna Calcuttas mean big money tuna payouts!

• All of the Overall Calcuttas still have White Marlin, Blue Marlin and Tuna components.

• New Blue Marlin Pro Jackpot Calcutta – Winner take all. It’s been asked for and we’ve heard you!

• Most importantly…The MidAtlantic will still be the same great event as always, only with more ways to win and bigger purses than ever before!

FAQ's

Q: Do I need to enter "Across the Board?"

A: There is no doubt that some people feel the need to be in every calcutta to be in the event “right.” We understand that but urge you to take a close look at what we’re offering this year. Across the board may or may not be the way you want to go.

For example: Across the board in 2013 was $21,000. For 2014 -Tournament Entry Fee plus entries in the Equalizer, In Deep, White Marlin Pro Jackpot, On The Board Reward and My Port = $22,500, and is essentially what constitued "across the board" last year.

Q: I am a billfisherman. If I happen into a nice Big Eye, will I still win substantial money if I don’t enter the Tuna Pro Jackpot or the Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin Calcutta?

A: Yes. All of the Overall Calcuttas still have the same Tuna component which means the Tuna payout, without entering the above “Tuna specific” calcuttas, will likely be commensurate with past years Tuna winnings.

Q: Is this two different tournaments now?

A: Not at all. It just makes available larger payouts to those who prefer chasing tuna or blue marlin, if they enter the additional calcuttas.
