Poor Girl’s Open
The Poor Girls Open is an all-women’s billfish release tournament held in Ocean City, MD, running August 12-14, 2027 at Bahia Marina. Now in its 34th year, the event was founded by Captain Steve Harman to give local female anglers an affordable, fun, and competitive fishing experience — all while supporting a meaningful cause. Participants fish offshore for white and blue marlin, with points awarded for releases, and may also enter optional categories for tuna, dolphin (mahi-mahi), and wahoo. Each day’s weigh-in takes place from roughly 4 PM to 9 PM at Bahia Marina, where spectators can enjoy a lively atmosphere complete with vendor booths, raffle prizes, silent auctions, and a signature “Pink Party” captain’s meeting. Over the years, the tournament has raised significant funds for breast cancer research—exceeding $1.8 million donated to the American Cancer Society to date. Beyond the thrill of the chase and the camaraderie on deck, the Poor Girls Open stands as a powerful testament to empowerment, conservation, and community—a celebration of women on the water making waves both in sport and in giving back.
