MD & FEDS SET BLACK SEA BASS REGULATIONS

The recreational fishery for Black Sea Bass opens in Maryland waters (Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic from 0-3 miles). waters. The minimum size is 12.5 inches and the daily creel is 25 fish/person/day.

Effective 12:01 a.m. May 20, 2013, and for the duration of the open season, the new possession limit will be 20 fish per person, while the minimum size will remain 12.5 inches. For federal waters in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) (3-200 miles off the coast), the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is expected to open the black sea bass season on May 19, 2013 with a 12.5 inch size limit and a 20 fish possession limit. However, if NMFS fails to publish a final rule by May 19, 2013, the EEZ will open under a 25-fish possession limit. All black sea bass possessed in Maryland would still be required to meet the more conservative 20-fish possession limit beginning on May 20, 2013.

In Delaware, state regulations allow for a 12.5-inch fish with a creel limit of 25 fish from May 19th to October 14th and November 1st to December 31st.
